FROM THE ARTIST

Hello, thank you for taking the time to visit my website.  My name is Rick Rosa. I have always had an interest in designing and building anything with wood.  I started refinishing furniture when I was in my teens and went on to building tables, decks, shelves and more.

In anticipating my retirement, in 2012, I enrolled in a class in woodturning. I was captivated by how the beauty of wood could be expressed.  I began designing and making bottle stoppers and bowls.  As I gained experience I designed and made peppermills and more artistic pieces. I have a passion for making the best product. I obsess over the quality and detail and pride myself in all the work I do.

HEAR WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS ARE SAYING

As The Wood Spins Brand.

All of my mills, bowls, and other products are hand made on my lathe, hence no two are exactly alike. The pepper and salt mills are hand sanded to 600 grit and finished with “The Doctors Woodshop Finishing Oil”, which is a heat-treated pure oil that penetrates into the work and dries to a hard-durable satin finish. Certain woods may require up to six or seven coats of the finishing oil to allow the beauty of the wood to shine through. To complete a mill, I use a Danish Crush grind ceramic mill mechanism that is extremely durable and adjustable, and capable of grinding any and all of your favorite spices. Spectraply pepper and salt mill sets (the colored ones) are finished with an industrial Ca glue, wet sanded and polished to 20000 grit for a blemish free mirror shine.

The peppermills and bowls are made from a variety of different woods. I use Cherry, Black Cherry Burl, Curly Maple, Birdseye Maple, Maple Burl, and Black Walnut, just to name a few.

For bottle stoppers I use only premium food grade stainless steel inserts.  They will never tarnish regardless of the tannin in the wine.  They are crafted from decorated Burlwood and multicolor resin to coordinate with any kitchen décor.

Browse through my website which showcases some of my recent work which I am excited to show you – designs that you will love to have in your home.

FAQs

With a little care your bowl will develop a rich patina that will be treasured from one generation to the next.

You can wash your bowl with warm water using a soft sponge or cloth to remove food particles or oils. Then use a mild dish soap, I prefer Dawn as it contains no phosphates. After washing, rinse thoroughly and dry it with a soft towel. Please let it sit to finish drying. If your bowl begins to look dry you may coat it with a food safe finish to restore the natural glow. Some choices may be mineral oil, butcher block oil or beeswax.

  • Do not put this in the dishwasher, it WILL crack! The same goes for a microwave.
  • Please do not let water sit in it. When it dries it will cause cracking and staining.
